Ocean View Villa for Sale in Huatulco, Mexico

Infrastructure

Huatulco is not your typical Mexican town! It was developed by FONATUR, a wing of Mexico’s Federal government that is responsible for the development of tourism. This is the same organization that built Cancun and Ixtapa and millions of federal dollars have been invested in modern infrastructure. As Mexico’s premier eco-resort, the area has been voted to have the cleanest beaches in the country and has received the coveted “Earth Check” gold certification as a sustainable tourism community.

An example of their commitment to environmentally sound practices is the water treatment facility which recycles all sewage to be reused in the parks, boulevards and the golf course. None of Huatulco`s sewage water is pumped out to sea, which keeps the ocean crystal clear. Not only is FONATUR responsible for first world infrastructure in Huatulco it employs about 800 workers to maintain it. This means that things like road maintenance, sewage and water are not the responsibility of the municipality but are paid by the federal government, keeping property taxes low while preserving first world standards. FONATUR continues to invest in this development and will be here for at least the next 20 years.

This tropical paradise is billed as “the best kept secret in Mexico” but the secret will not be kept for much longer. Some infrastructure includes:

  • A cruise ship pier that can accommodate up to two cruise ships at once.
  • Paved palm - lined well lit streets.
  • Two marinas, one for fishing and tour boats and a second for pleasure boats and yachts.
  • The Huatulco International Airport is owned by Aeropuertos del Sureste (ASUR), a group owning 9 airports in Mexico, has a runway of 8858 feet enabling it to handle large jets as well as private planes. In 2018 it handled almost 819,300 visitors.
  • The Copalita Archaeological / Ecological Park is the only archaeological site on the Pacific Coast of Mexico with ruins more than 2000 years old.
